Abstract

A This study aims to describe the application of Grice's principle of cooperation in the trial of Ferdy Sambo's indictment. The reason for taking the topic of applying the principle of Grice's cooperation in the Ferdy Sambo trial is because the author considers that the principle of conversation, especially the principle of cooperation, plays an important role in communication between judges, defendants Ferdy Sambo during the trial. This research method is qualitative This approach is considered to be able to explain simply and clearly. Then, the data collection technique is listening, and taking notes. While the instrument is the researcher himself with the help of data cards, so that the data can be arranged systematically and can be understood. Data analysis techniques in this study use referential or padan techniques, where the data that has been obtained is analyzed with reference tools, namely the principles of cooperation. The findings in this study are: the application of Grice's principle of cooperation in accordance with its maxims. The data shows that 17 utterances were obtained, namely 7 utterances that comply with the quality maxim, 5 utterances that meet the quantity maxim, 3 utterances that meet the relevance maxim, 2 utterances that meet the method maxim. That based on these data, the conversations in the congregation have fulfilled the principle of cooperation. Fulfillment of the principle of cooperation occurs if the conversation or conversation of speech participants is in accordance with the context of communication so that it becomes good and efficient communication.
